Maria Vlachou (PT)

She manages the Facebook page Museum texts / Textos em Museus and co-manages the blog Museums and Migration. She participated in the European project RESHAPE – Reflect, Share, Practice, Experiment, as a member of the “Arts and Citizenship” group. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Solidarity in Action Network.

She served as Communications Director at São Luiz Teatro Municipal (2006-2012) and as Communications Officer at Pavilhão do Conhecimento – Ciência Viva (2001-2006). She was involved with ICOM Portugal’s governing bodies (2005-2014) and edited its bulletin. She has provided consultancy for the Museu Arpad Szenes – Vieira da Silva and the Marinha Cultural Commission. She also collaborated with the Descobrir and Próximo Futuro programs at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.

She is a Fellow and member of ISPA – International Society for the Performing Arts (2018, 2020), an alumna of the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington, 2011-2013), and holds a Master’s degree in Museology from University College London (1994), where she interned at the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology and the Natural History Museum. She completed her undergraduate studies in History and Archaeology at the University of Ioannina (1992).
