Israel Fernández was born into a Romani family with Andalusian roots in Corral de Almaguer (Toledo). His environment and culture quickly ignited his musical talent and passion for flamenco. From a young age, he began to stand out for his remarkable abilities, winning his first television competition at the age of 11 (Tu gran día, TVE). Since then, he has continued to grow in every aspect, and today he is considered one of the most important flamenco performers. He has managed to transcend beyond flamenco, capturing the attention of new audiences through his distinctive approach to traditional singing.
Currently, he has five albums on the market, with Universo Pastora (Universal Music, 2018), Amor (Universal Music, 2020), and his latest release, ‘Pura Sangre’, establishing him as one of the genre’s leading figures and a prominent name in Spanish music. With “Amor”, he achieved several significant milestones, including reaching number 7 in sales in its second week of release, a nomination for Best Flamenco Album at the Latin Grammy Awards, and winning the Odeon Award for Best Flamenco Album. It also ranked among the best national albums of 2020 in major music publications such as Rockdelux, Mondo Sonoro, ABC, and Babelia (El País). The magazine GQ included him in their list of the 21 most promising musicians in the world. Additionally, he has been one of the few Spaniards to record for the international platform Colors.
With Pura Sangre, he presents his most personal work to date, offering an intimate view of his surrounding environment and his interaction with the outside world. This introspective project delves into his way of feeling and relating to his closest universe: family, Romani culture, love, nature, human values, and his deepest self.
