Helena has been working alongside people who use drugs since 2004. As a psychologist with a postgraduate degree in human rights law, she is committed to community interventions and emphasises the transformative impact of harm reduction services. In 2016, Helena played an active role in establishing Kosmicare, where she serves as an executive board member. At Kosmicare, Helena focuses on project development, monitoring and evaluation, harm reduction policies and practices, drug checking, and new psychoactive substances. Helena has a PhD in psychology from Porto University, her thesis explored the individual and communitarian potential of Kosmicare’s drug checking service.
