Diego El Gavi
The story of Diego El Gavi’s life is deeply marked by his origins. Born in Lisbon, the singer emigrated with his family to Madrid, where he lived for several years, immersing himself in the essence of Spanish culture, from the language to the flamenco tradition. As a teenager, he moved to Porto and developed a growing interest in the sound arts of his ethnicity, particularly inspired by a cassette of the Gipsy Kings given to him by his mother. In 1987, he and his cousins formed the project Les Gitanes, performing flamenco song covers.
Upon returning to Lisbon, he discovered the genius of Camarón de la Isla and the profound flamenco tradition he embodied, which motivated Diego to develop his own original work. In 2019, he released his first album, Puerta del Alma, featuring contributions from notable artists such as Tatanka, Paulo de Carvalho, and Ricardo Ribeiro.
