Danilo Cardoso (BR)

He is an art educator, holds a degree in History (UPE/Brazil), a master’s degree in Education (USP/Brazil), and is currently pursuing a PhD in Anthropology (ISCTE/NOVA/Portugal). He has over 20 years of teaching experience in both formal and non-formal education—both in Brazil and Portugal. His research during his undergraduate studies focused on teacher training, and during his master’s, he explored the influence of cultural practices on the habitus of middle-class youth. In Brazil, his most significant and lengthy project was “O que há de negro em nós?” (“What is Black in Us?”) (2012/14). He migrated to Lisbon due to the political crisis. In Portugal, he is the author of three collective projects that were awarded in the three editions of the Municipal Prize for Human Rights in Children and Youth: “Com a mala na mão contra a discriminação: uma viagem pela história dos nossos direitos” (“With Suitcase in Hand Against Discrimination: A Journey Through the History of Our Rights”) (2018/19); “Dicionário de Princípios: um guia infantil para ver e ouvir a cidade” (“Dictionary of Principles: A Children’s Guide to Seeing and Hearing the City”) (2020/21); and “Igualdade em Rede: tecendo saberes emancipatórios” (“Equality in Network: Weaving Emancipatory Knowledge”) (2021/22). He participated in the investigations “Memories of Portuguese Academic Racism” (2021) and “Racism and Xenophobia: The Normalisation of Hate Speech in the Public Space of the Internet” and led 15 spontaneous and institutional groups in Anti-Racist Education—for white people—from Porto to Beja, including Lisbon and Évora (2020-?). He conceived and developed the “Diário do !Agora!: ciclo de escrita|poesia antirracista” (“Diary of the !Now!: Cycle of Anti-Racist Writing|Poetry”) (Aljube Museum, 2020), among other projects such as “Baobá Cineclub” and the “Carolina Maria de Jesus Study Group”. He engages with schools, universities, the arts, and some social movements. He is an educational officer at the Horizonte Neighbourhood Residents’ Association. He has coordinated the EducAR Group for six years, is an independent curator, and is the author of @notasdeumautoexilio (2021).
