António Lopes (PT)
António Pedro Lopes (Ponta Delgada, 1981) works as an artist, cultural manager and programmer, curator, and artistic director. He is the co-founder and co-artistic director of the Tremor music and arts festival, together with Lovers & Lollypops and Yuzin, on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores. António has directed festivals and artistic projects in Portugal and Europe, across the fields of contemporary dance, performing arts, and music. From 2021 to 2023, he served as the artistic director for Ponta Delgada – Azores 2027’s bid for European Capital of Culture. In 2020, he co-created MAPAS with Gui Garrido, a mobile cultural centre offering a nomadic, decentralised, and digital proximity programme in the municipality of Leiria. In 2019, he co-founded the Fabric Arts Festival in Fall River, USA, alongside Jesse James, Michael Benevides, and Sofia Botelho, co-curating the event until 2021. As a dance and theatre artist, António has participated in dozens of performances, workshops, artistic residencies, and conferences worldwide, collaborating with many artists, including Jérôme Bel, João Fiadeiro, Marco Berrettini, Gustavo Ciríaco, Raquel André, and the Iranian company Virgule Performing Arts. He holds a degree in Theatre from the University of Évora, a diploma in choreography from Forum Dança, a postgraduate degree in Cultural Management and Sustainability from the University of Coimbra, and is currently pursuing an MBA in Arts Innovation at the Global Leaders Institute in Washington DC, with the support of the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD).
