ABSENT CONCEPTS, NON-EXISTENT PRACTICES: A DECOLONIAL APPROACH TO THE CULTURAL SECTOR

Thursday, 26 September12h00 - 13h30Sala Confeitaria FÓRUM / FORUM

The implementation of a truly inclusive and equitable cultural democracy project is only possible through a decolonial approach that questions and dismantles the colonial structures and narratives still present in cultural institutions.

Many institutions, although they present themselves as promoting diversity and inclusion, continue to operate according to hierarchical principles and structures that exclude cultures, perspectives and bodies that do not align with the Eurocentric construction of history and culture. These practices perpetuate historical privileges and inequalities, reinforcing a vertical cultural system based on social and racial hierarchization.

This forum explores decoloniality in the cultural sector, challenging the colonial structures and narratives present in contemporary cultural institutions. We will analyze the absence of decolonial concepts in the formulation of strategies and in cultural management and programming, reflecting on the reasons why this gap persists and its consequences for inclusion and equity in the sector. The forum also proposes to discuss practical solutions and develop proposals to effectively integrate the decolonial perspective into cultural practices and policies.
