Karl La Tavares (BR)
Graduated in Fashion Design, Karlla Tavares (Rio de Janeiro-RJ) is a creative director, costume designer, producer, cultural organiser, and carnival expert. With over 10 years of experience in cultural production, she specialises in artistic events and is also recognised as a curator. The multi-talented artist is one of the founders of the performance arts group and carnival bloc “Viemos do Egyto,” established in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. The bloc, known for attracting large crowds in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Lisbon, promotes a meeting of social classes due to its popular, democratic, and inclusive nature.
In 2016, through the cultural grant “Boulevard Olímpico,” organised by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall during the Olympics hosted in the city, Viemos do Egyto performed at the “Tendências” stage. This socio-cultural project became the largest public outdoor event in the history of the Olympic Games.
Currently, Karlla lives in Lisbon, where she leads the cultural activities of the bloc and is a board member of the “União dos Blocos de Carnaval de Rua de Lisboa” (UBCL), contributing to the preservation and promotion of carnival traditions as a political act in Europe.
