Julia Baker (UK)
Julia is an ethnomusicologist and freelance music curator and audio producer. Having lived and/or travelled in Brazil, Colombia, Cuba and Cabo Verde to research their musics over the last 17 years, and having studied ethnomusicology at London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, she is very interested in and always learning about music from Latin America, Africa and their diasporas. Julia has also worked as a DJ for many years, playing at various clubs and venues in London and Lisbon including Five Miles, the Bussey Building, LuxFrágil, Musicbox and Arroz Estúdios. She’s also hosted and produced radio shows on SOAS radio, Aaja and Netil radio in London, as well as on Lisbon’s East Side Radio. Now based in Lisbon and working as a freelance podcast producer and music curator for international brands, Julia is originally from the UK where she spent almost a decade living in South London in the midst of the burgeoning UK Jazz scene which has become another passion of hers, as well as working in music programming for the Barbican Centre.
