CLUBBING AS A POLITICAL SPACE OF RESISTANCE
Clubbing and the dance floor are spaces of community and expression. Dance music’s formative scenes have always oscillated between different forms of protest and a hedonistic escape from everything political. However, the presence and absence of bodies is always political. In these environments, the feeling of personal and bodily security opens doors to liberation and emancipation. The dance floor becomes a space for constant experimentation, where identity and community are built critically and spontaneously.
In this talk, we’ll discuss clubbing culture and the dance floor as central spaces of inclusion and personal and community expression. We will explore how clubbing intertwines with activism, creating environments that celebrate diversity and cultural resistance, challenge established norms and provide visibility to marginalized perspectives. We will also look at how the dance floor contributes to the decolonization of cultural spaces and identities from an intersectional perspective.
