Riding Pânico (PT)

“To think that it all started on an incendiary afternoon in 2004 is an exercise that is both nostalgic and futile. If, on the one hand, it gives a certain enjoyment to note that it was from here that dozens of experiences sprang up in the Portuguese underground, either because of their influence or by their own hand, on the other hand, Riding Pânico never stopped at what it was, but rather in what can be in the present.

Hence the distance that goes between one disc and the other, with Rabo de Cavalo “only” being the third of his career. Riding Pânico’s music, supergroup in reverse (since its members became, roughly speaking, “super” from later projects) is not limited by time, but by the idea; it is not arbitrary, volatile, but a fusion of the speed of a spark with the electrical will to be, forever, as it was that afternoon when a group of friends searched for what they couldn’t find anywhere else. Res ipsa loquitur: the group of friends has changed over time, but not their idea. In Rabo de Cavalo, the riffs run like jellyfish, the drums are lost and broken, the groove still beats, like a child’s heart, under improvised chaos. All in the name of an indecipherable spirit, of a rock that, more than being post-anything, is only and exclusively Portugal, above all of its shadow, than is not immediately within reach. All because panic is not controllable: you ride. ”
