Friday, 27 September17h30 - 18h30Sala dos Fornos ENTREVISTA / KEYNOTE INTERVIEW

Israel Fernández, a flamenco singer born in Toledo to a Gitano family, and Diego El Gavi, a singer with roots in Lisbon and Madrid, are two of the most recognized names in contemporary flamenco on the Iberian Peninsula. Israel stands out for his fusion of flamenco with pop music, always maintaining the authenticity of the flamenco tradition, while Diego, inspired by the genius of Camarón de la Isla, develops original work that reflects the richness of Romani culture in Portugal and Spain. Both have contributed to the recognition and appreciation of gitana music. The different paths of Israel Fernández and Diego El Gavi share a loyalty to flamenco and a common vision of the importance of music as a tool for social integration and cultural preservation.

In this conversation moderated by Aïda Camprubí, the two artists will talk about topics such as the evolution of gitana music, their experiences as musicians in Portugal and Spain, and the relationship between music and religion in their creations. They will also address issues such as the lack of incentives for gitana music creation and the social prejudices that still persist. Through this sharing, the conversation aims not only to bring the original profiles of the two artists closer together, but also to demystify stereotypes and highlight the crucial role of music in promoting diversity and cultural inclusion.
