Duquesa (PT)

After numerous adventures in vans and public transport, burning his way up with punk rock ‘n roll, Nuno Rodrigues arrived at Duquesa, his project that houses the homonymous album and, now, “North Coast”, a document of his new artistic phase and about his references, mirrored in seven pop songs of darker tones, with careful arrangements, now sweet, now bitter, extolling an essentially mature record. Nuno Rodrigues docked at its origin, in the North Coast of this rectangle, to reveal itself in cooler tones and in blacker melodies, definitely opening a new window for his interpreter art.
Born as far north as the coast possible in terms of Portuguese geography, Duquesa definitely enters a new chapter in his life, assuming, first, the facet of an interpreter in Portuguese, and improving his composition with influences directly drawn from the 80s and minimalist letters that make room for stunning arrangements. Over seven tracks, bold melodies paint the bases with which the voice, in a different register from the one presented until now, absorbs the sound of 30 years ago with a completely urgent production, highlighting the bass lines in constant courtship with the announced and justly balanced snare drum. Duquesa arrived prematurely at the point of observing the years gone by and giving them a new framework, with a new and idiosyncratic expression. From A nal to Norte Litoral, a 30-minute laissez faire, the Minho’s calm, oceanic in its duality, is revitalized in bright green tones and imposes itself on fragility, showing Duquesa as a force to be taken into account in pop writing.
