Maria Rita Nogueira is a multidisciplinary artist, and she works as a lecturer and researcher at Manchester Metropolitan University, in England. Maria Rita holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Design and Multimedia from the University of Coimbra. As a former dancer (in classical and contemporary dance), she always wanted to intersect dance, design, and technology, and it was during her research and Ph.D. in Contemporary Art that she found herself immersed in this passionate symbiosis. In her artistic practice, Maria Rita pushes the boundaries of interactive art, particularly by merging dance movement with artificial intelligence and augmented reality to create visual and movement-based interactive experiences. Her interdisciplinary approach extends into various domains, including art, culture, and e-health, focusing on design, user research, and user experience. Her work has garnered international recognition, notably winning the Best Presentation and Performance Award at the 2023 Technarte Conference in Bilbao for her piece “F O R M S” and the Best Artwork award at the Artistic Residency Criatech for her work “Move In Tempo.” She has performed and exhibited globally, with highlights including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, USA, the Intercontinental Bienal in Buenos Aires, Argentina, her solo exhibitions at the National Museum of Machado de Castro, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the solo exhibition at the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art in Seoul, South Korea, where she most recently exhibited. Maria Rita continues to explore the intersection of technology, movement, and art, constantly seeking new ways to inspire and engage audiences worldwide.
