Saya Mohamed (ES/PS)
Saya defines herself as a multi-potential artist, music researcher and anti-racist activist. Born in Santiago de Compostela, with Palestinian roots and currently based in Porto, she is a regular on the clubbing scene in Galicia, who finds herself in the current scene as a multi-genre DJ, influenced by the various cultural and artistic worlds that surround her. Trained as a Pharmacist and VDJ and Sound Technician, she combines her facet as a music selector with her passion for cultural production, photography, videography and sound experimentation with field recordings. In addition to all this, Saya was the winner of the Arda Academy scholarship with shesaid.so Portugal, and will study Music Business in this academic year 2023/2024.
In her career we could mention an endless number of clubs, venues and festivals in Galicia, in addition to her participation in the Boiler Room x Sisters of Rave, debut at Razzmatazz (Barcelona), and in clubs in Porto such as Pérola Negra, Maus Hábitos or Ferro Bar, Musicbox (Lisbon) and Art Haus (Faro), she has also made the international leap with mixes for radio programs such as HKCR in Hong Kong or Radio Flouka (Paris) where she has a bimonthly residence .
Her sessions are marked by root rhythms, with genres ranging from afrobeats to arabic electronics, kuduro, gqom, baile funk, deconstructed club, UK bass or amapiano. A journey in which she explores sounds from different regions and gives them recognition and visibility of the existing resistance in those territories and in the diaspora. Thus, her DJ set creates a space for the care and celebration of dissidence, and she reminds us that the fight against racism is also possible through music.
