Amarilis Felizes (PT)

Amarílis Felizes is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Political Economy (ISCTE-IUL, FEUC, and ISEG-UL). Her research focuses on Cultural Policies in Portugal and is funded by FCT. She holds a Master’s degree in Economics and Public Policies from ISEG-UL, where she wrote her dissertation titled “Cultural Policy in Portugal – Determinants of Public Expenditure on Culture” (2018).

She graduated in Economics from FEP-UP (2011) and in Theater from ESMAE – IPP (2014). Amarílis has lectured as a guest assistant, teaching the Introduction to Economics course at ISCTE in 2022. She has also worked as a research assistant for the report “The State of the Nation and Public Policies – Enhancing Public Policies” (2020) published by the Institute for Public and Social Policies – IPPS-ISCTE. In addition, she wrote the preface for the Portuguese edition of “The Government of Inequalities: Critique of Neoliberal Insecurity” by Maurizio Lazzarato (2020).

She is the board of the Portuguese Association of Political Economy and she’s president of Plateia – Association of Performing Arts Professionals. With a background as a cultural manager, Amarílis has worked with renowned theater companies such as Visões Úteis (2020) and Mundo Perfeito (2014-2015). From 2015 to 2018, she served as a policy advisor for Economics and Finance in the Parliamentary Group of the Left Bloc in the Assembly of the Republic.

Amarílis has co-authored a chapter in “The Routledge Companion to Theatre of the Oppressed” (2019) and remains engaged in ongoing activities related to this methodology.
