QUEER SPACE PROJECT

QUEER SPACE PROJECT is a new pilot program that links LGBTQ+ nightlife creators with the knowledge, networks and tools to create new spaces. The program seeks to make paths to venue ownership more legible to underrepresented creators, and to promote intergenerational exchange and mentorship between emerging and established cultural and creative practitioners. Made possible by a CIRCE 2024 Fellowship with network support from Berlin Clubcommission, Awareness-Akademie and VibeLab, this year’s virtual prototype includes an open roundtable and a four-session, application-only cohort learning program, for LGBTQ+ nightlife and cultural practitioners based in the 46 Council of Europe countries. Presenters from Bar Bario, Dalston Superstore, Friends of the Joiner’s Arms, Pritličje, Planeta Manas and SchwuZ covered topics such as finding space, developing venue concepts and business plans, building audiences, and community-owned and collectively-operated models of operation.
