The sharp lines of a female voice drew attention to the song “Mandume” released by Emicida in 2015. It was Drik Barbosa, a young rapper who developed his freestyle skills at the Battle of Santa Cruz, the birthplace of contemporary rap (from there, emerged names like Rashid, Projota and Emicida himself).
Born in São Paulo, Drik (pronounced Drika) composes since she was 14 years old. For going beyond the rhymes, she was invited to sing the chorus of some raps. She has collaborated on tracks by artists such as Flow MC, Amiri, Marcello Gugu, Projota and DJ Caique. In 2013, alongside Emicida, she participated in the song “Aos Olhos de uma Criança”, in the score for the movie “O Menino e o Mundo” – an animated feature film made by Alê Abreu.
It was in 2018, however, that the singer-songwriter took the most solid step of her career. By releasing the EP “Espelho”, which runs between rap and R&B, Drik can better delineate her personality and show her power on stage. With music direction by Grou, the five-track work has been released by the Laboratório Fantasma and lists the guest appearances of Rincon Sapiência and Stefanie Roberta.
While being in the collective Rimas & Melodias, she prepares to release – in 2019 – her first solo album with support from Natura Musical.
