Jossiela Barbosa Ramos, stage name Éllàh Barbosa, is 29 years old and hails from the municipality of Santa Cruz, the birthplace of Orlando Pantera, Katchás, Nha Nácia Gomes, and Elida Almeida.

She was born into a family of musicians, and her artistic talent emerged when she was still a child. “Like every Cape Verdean, I grew up surrounded by good music at home. I grew up in a family of composers, writers, (…) such as my uncle Kaká Barbosa, my father who played the guitar, and my mother who was a ‘singer’ in her teenage years. That’s when my artistic vein awakened. However, I only started taking music seriously at the age of 22 when I was pursuing higher education in Political Science in Portugal,” she says.

Éllàh’s professional career began in Portugal, where she performed at various venues such as B.Leza and Casa da Morna.

In Portugal, the singer and songwriter collaborated with Cape Verdean artist Dino D’Santiago and Portuguese artist Branko. “Dino D’Santiago opened doors for me abroad. He was the main connection,” she says gratefully.

In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, Éllàh Barbosa was part of Madonna’s Madame X Tour.
